Weekly Disney Roundup: May 27, 2012

Disney Has announced on the Wreck-It Ralph facebook page that the trailer will debut on June 6th. Let the countdown begin!
Imagineering Disney has a rather cool collection of Then and Now pictures featuring Walt Disney walking around Disneyland. You can check out the whole collection here.

Apparently the decision to give Mickey Mouse four fingers instead of five is one that had tremindious financial benefits for the studio. You can read how Walt Disney came to that conclusion here.

Discovery Island, and Disney's River Country are both Disney attractions that have been closed forever to the public. But that hasn't stopped people from sneaking in every now and then. This is an account of a group of people who went to Discovery Island in 2009. And below is a video of of a couple of guys who ventured into Disney's River Country. Both places seem eerily untouched and abandoned. In the video you can even still hear the music playing through the streets for an audience that isn't there anymore.

Disney Magic #36: The Darkest of Themes with The Hunchback of Notre Dame

This week we watch what may be the darkest and most adult movie in the Disney Lineup, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Not sure what we mean? Compare Hellfire from this movie to any other Disney song. Go ahead, we'll wait. Are you back yet? You see what we're talking about? Yet all the same, Hunchback has the amazing visuals and complex characters (Frollo in this one) that help to make the Disney Renaissance such a huge success. Direct Download Link Here.

Weekly Disney Roundup: May 20, 2012

Maleficent casting is getting underway! Turns out the rumors were true and Elle Fanning is playing Aurora (I hope they're not sticking with the 16th birthday thing, she's only 14 and she looks about 12) There's some other pretty big names involved too, Miranda Richardson is playing Maleficent's Aunt and Imedla Staunton and Lesley Manville are playing the good fairies. More info here!

This post about Shanghai Disneyland speculations is really fascinating. It's hard to say what will be correct or not, but it is really cool to read about!

A little bit more info on Agent P's World Showcase Adventure over here! It sounds like a lot of fun, and will be a nice replacement for the previous Kim Possible game.

This is an R2D2 full of churros. Yup. More delightful Star Wars food here. (Can you tell how badly we want to be at Star Wars Weekends yet?)
As a big fan of poster design, this new book looks so cool. More info here!

Disney Magic #35: Podcasting With All The Colors of The Wind

As we make our way through the Disney Renaissance, this week's movie is Pocahontas. Going for a more serious tone than some previous Disney movies, Pocahontas boasts some of the strongest, most fully realized characters that we've seen so far on our journey through Disney. It also features a character named Wiggins. If ever there was a Disney character diserving of his own spinoff direct to DVD movie, it would be Wiggins. Direct Download Link Here

Weekly Disney Roundup: May 13, 2012

New Star Wars Weekends stuff is out! Having made a Padme dress previously, I totally understand this feeling. See everything else here!

The story behind the Laila perfume from the Norway pavillion at Epcot is such a sweet story, especially for mother's day! Read it here.

Merida's got a face character and a meet-and-great! This is at Walt Disney Wolrd, there's also one at Disneyland but I'm not sure if it's open yet. Photo from insidethemagic on Flickr!

Also, these are make-your-own droids. They're premiering at Star Wars Weekends, and I want about 80 of them. More info here!

Disney Magic #34: Disney Does Shakespeare...But With Lions

It's time to talk about one of Disney's most critically and commercially successful movies, The Lion King. This week we travel to Africa for the third Disney movie without any human characters. We marvel at the stunning lanscape animation in the movie, enjoy the soundtrack by Elton John and TIm Rice, and question how many bugs it would take to provide adequate nourishment to a growing lion cub. Weekly Disney Roundup: May 6, 2012

Did you know that the kid who voiced Bambi ended up becoming the youngest Marine Drill instructor ever and then serving three tours of duty in Vietnam? Cause I sure as hell didn't. Read more about him here!

This is just delightful.

10 Secrets from the Wonderful World of Disney is a pretty cool read. I knew most of these but some were new. Especially that paint color! So interesting.

A new attraction called "The Legend of Captain John Sparrow" is opening at Hollywood Studios at Disney World this fall. Not a lot of info out yet, but you can read about it here.

Disney Magic #33: Monkeys and Tigers and Genies, Oh My!

Aladdin is our movie for this podcast, and boy, did we have fun with this one. Aladdin not only has some of the most impressive action sequences in a Disney movie so far, but it also has a great cast of characters including, A charming thief, one of our favorite princesses, and the quintessential Disney Dad. Oh and there's also a giant blue genie that's voiced by Robin Williams. Direct Download Link Here
