Weekly Disney Roundup: December 17, 2012

I think I might have posted this last year, but it's definitely worth a repost!

Some Frozen concept art is out! ...uninteresting blonde people. Joel and I have decided to refer to it henceforth as "Rapunzel and Kay's Snow Adventure" (Kay as in the one from Sword in the Stone) Larger shots of the above image here.

Dapper Dans sing boy band music! Too good.

Weekly Disney Roundup: December 9, 2012

Everything's getting all Christmas-y around the Disney parks these days! My personal favorite is this cone tree made of cones with cones for ornaments, hooked up to a car battery. So awesome. It's from Cars Land at Disneyland!

New Fantasyland opened at Disney World this week! Lookit King Mickey. too cute. Though I am disappointed by lack of Queen Minnie at the ceremony :C More pictures here!

Disney signed a deal with Netflix this week! Some movies are already available for streaming and more are yet to come. Check out this post for more details.

Did you guys know that Muppet Christmas Carol is the first Muppet movie Disney co-produced and released? It's also pretty much the best Christmas movie ever, so you guys are gonna get a lot of it for the next few weeks.

Disney Magic #54: The Disney Magic Top Ten Disney Movies

Well, here we are. After a year of watching all 51 movies in the official Disney Lineup, we've made it to the end and now it's time to grandly attempt to make a list of the top ten. Or we each make a top ten list. So potentially twenty movies. This may very well have been the the most difficult task ever attempted on the Disney Magic Podcast, but we have come through and so we present, our Top Ten lists of Disney Movies.

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 2, 2012

Awww yiss holiday time at Disney! Here's a cool timelapse of the gingerbread tree at the Contemporary Resort at Disney World.

Some new Frozen concept art and...concept puppet? Of the snowman character. He looks uh...a bit dumb. But I also hated Ray's character design before I saw The Princess and the Frog, so that's no good indication of actual dumb-ness.

This is pretty much the cutest.

Disney Magic #53: Return to The Hundred Acre Woods

We've made it to the end! For now that is. While Wreck It-Ralph will eventually make it's way to our entertainment systems, currently Winnie the Pooh is the last movie in the lineup to be available on DVD. And so we end our year long journey by going back to the hundred acre woods for a short, sweet little film with some of our favorite characters from one of the earlier movies.

Disney Magic #52: This Episode is Called Tangled so That Boys Will Listen to it.

We've reached the fiftieth movie mark, a true achievement for both us and for Disney (ok, probably a bigger achievement for them) and are awarded with Tangled. Disney's first CGI fairytale, has unbelievably beautiful animation and with Rapunzel, Flynn and Mother Gothel, some of the more three dimensional characters in Disney Cannon (no pun intended.)

Weekly Disney Roundup: November 18, 2012

If this isn't the cutest thing you've seen all day maybe you should take a break from the kitten cam. Source!

Just a peek at Tom Hanks as Walt Disney for Saving Mr.Banks! There's also apparently been vintage cast members and banners out front of Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland for filming!

Celebrate the Magic is a new projection show at Disney World! Thus far my favorite concept I've seen for it is this, from Wreck-it Ralph, but there's a few more over here if you're curious!

Disney Magic #51: Classic Animation, Fairy Tale Story, Musical Numbers, Princesses. Disney's Back

After action movies, space movies, adventure movies, Disney returns to what it does best with The Princess and the Frog, a fairy tale story with a Disney Magic touch. Wonderful songs that make us remember how much we missed Disney musicals. And set in New Orleans, with some of the most interesting, accurate, well researched background information to bring the story to live.

Wreck-It Ralph Premiere!

Friend of the podcast Scott Nicholson, (who was on an episode a while back which you can listen to here) recently had the great pleasure of attending the world premere of Disney's newest movie Wreck-It Ralph.

While I'm sure that most of you join us in our bitter jealousy of Scott, a very small conciliation prize is a couple of the pictures that Scott took at the premiere. So enjoy the pictures below for some of the cool activities and exhibits that Disney pulled out for their premiere party.

You can also  follow Scott on his personal blog, found here.

Weekly Disney Roundup: November 4, 2012

So unless you've been living under a rock the past few days, you probably already know that Disney bought Lucasfilms earlier this week. But really any excuse to use this picture. More info here!

The Epic Mickey sequel is going to have multiple endings! Supposedly your decisions will affect which one you get, and there are more than 20 endings. More info here!

on halloween this guy dressed up as aladdin and glued a carpet to his skaboard and made his way through the halls like this
Four for you random Aladdin. You go random Aladdin. From tumblr.

Why yes, that is Jane Lynch dressed up as Calhoun, her character from Wreck-it Ralph. Too awesome.

Disney Magic #50: Disney's Action Movie...With a Dog

For this week's movie, we view Bolt, the Disney action movie staring the voices of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus. Featuring a Dog that think's he's a superhero, a hamster who agrees with him, a cat, forced along for the ride, and all the pigeons that you could ever want in a movie.

Correction: The girl from Oliver and Company is actually named Jenny, not Penny.

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 28, 2012

Disney Interactive is apparently working on a video game code named "Toy Box" and will be reportedly be the first time Disney and Pixar characters will interact in any format! Not much else is known yet, but it sounds super interesting. More here.

Disneyland pumpkin carving! The Brave one is probably my favorite, such gorgeous lettering!

This Tumblr post about Cinderella seriously made me laugh out loud.

It's almost Halloween! Have you guys had your yearly watching of Hocus Pocus yet? I watched it yesterday. Still just as weird and just as delightful and by far the most uses of the words "damn" and "virgin" in any Disney movie ever.

Disney Magic #49: Keep Moving Forward...To the Future!

After a few bumpy weeks, Meet the Robinsons looks like it's the first step on the road to Disney getting back to what it does best. All this from a movie that includes time travel, a meatball fight, talking frogs, a bowler hat guy, a dinosaur and the second Adam West role in two weeks.

"Once you have a daughter, no matter how tough, thuggish, or introverted you might be, you’re going to play princess with reckless abandon in front of others knowing that if anyone sees you they’re going to understand. Especially if that someone is another dad."
Well if this isn't the cutest thing you've seen all week, I don't know what is.

lisseemae on tumblr made this truly awesome FLIK card costume for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party this year. Too funny!

More about the Be Our Guest restaurant. This is just too freaking pretty, you guys. I hadn't seen any of the West Wing stuff before this, it looks amazing!

I believe I shared the Dapper Dan's singing "Grim Grinning Ghosts" last year, so I thought I'd share "This is Halloween" this year!

This awesome photo from flickr user asterix611 shows off Disney's freshly built giant castle ice sculpture in New York City. It was used to announce Limited Time Magic, a new promotion Disney parks are doing next year, which basically involves a special event every month or so. You can read more about it here!

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 14, 2012

Pixar's latest Toy Story short, Partysaurus Rex, is now available online! Go check it out here.

i09 shared some lovely Snow White concept art this week. I hadn't seen quite a bit of it, and it's all very lovely. Check that out here.

A bunch of stuff in Disney World's new Fantasyland section is under soft opening right now. Here's a view of the Beast's castle and Be Our Guest restaurant from insidethemagic on flickr. You can't even go in it just yet, just a little preview, but it's so cool to see it all in one piece after seeing bits and pieces for so long!

Disney Magic #48 - It's Chicken Little! Made on Computers!

Chicken Little marks Disney's first fully computer animated movie (because the water in Dinosaur was live action) but how does the end result turn out. Lots of famous celebrity voices here, lots of references to popular songs. A couple of burp/pee jokes thrown in there. But yes, this is a Disney movie and not a Dreamworks movie. Though if you were confused, it's quite understandable.

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 7, 2012

The new Peter Pan blu-ray cover is super pretty! It doesn't come out of the vault until next year, though.

So I'm moving in immediately, anyone else want to join me? Someone else can take the haunted bathroom, it would scare me to death in the middle of the night.

I can't imbed the cool new video of the Paperman animation process, so you should totally go check it out. I can't say I fully understand everything, but it looks amazing!

Frankenweenie is out in theaters! Are you guys going to go see it? I really liked the original short but I'm not sure if I'm going to see it yet.

Disney Magic #47: The Last 2D Animation Disney EVER Does (you know, for the next five years.)

It's time to look at Home on the Range, perhaps one of the least popular movies in the Disney Lineup. Often credited with ending the 2D animation for the next several years, We take a look at what we thought for a while would be the end of a major chapter in Disney, and animation, history. A movie about cow bounty hunters.

Disney Magic #46 - If Not A Llama, Then You Might Get Turned Into A Bear

It's time for us to watch Brother Bear, one of the more often overlooked movies in the Disney Lineup. A movie about family, a movie about brotherhood, a movie about the power of love, a movie about the balance of nature, but most importantly of all, a movie about a pair of moose. Strange Brew Moose.

Weekly Disney Roundup: September 23, 2012

This commercial for the Epcot Food and Wine Festival made me laugh probably a little harder than it should have.

Saving Mr. Banks is a live action movie in production about making Mary Poppins. As such, they needed to cast Walt, the first time he's been portrayed by someone else on screen! Tom Hanks has been chosen, and although it's not the Ryan Gosling biopic I'm longing for since that fake poster, I think it's a pretty good casting. What do you guys think? Source.

It's also Halloween time at the parks now! My favorite picture that I've seen thus far is this group from Tokyo Disney. That's right, they're dressed as dancers from the Easter parade. Amazing. From HAMACHI! on flickr.

Disney Magic #45: Pirates, and Ships, and Treasure, But in Space

Another sci-fi oriented Disney Movie (what is that, three in a row?) wIth Treasure Planet. Adapting the classic pirate novel to a space setting, Treasure Planet seemed to keep a large amount of the feel of a classical pirate story. Yes, Long John SIlver is a cyborg now, but almost everything from the ships, to the clothing to the guns, echo the original source material.

Weekly Disney Roundup: September 16, 2012

I found this delightful photo of Ratigan hanging out with Vincent Price this week and I had to share. So awesome.

A cryptic new video this week from the New Fantasyland at Disney World. Best youtube comment? "I am the hero New Fantasyland deserves, but not the one it needs right now."

For fellow Avatar fans.

New Wreck-it Ralph poster! Finally got to see the trailer in theaters in front of Paranorman last week. Super excited!

And of course, Finding Nemo is back out in theaters this week in 3D! Are you guys going to go see it?

Disney Magic #44: Back from a Hawaiian Vacation...With Aliens

For our 42nd movie in the Disney series, we're watching Lilo and Stitch or, how a six year old, her alien dog, a nineteen year old, her boyfriend, another pair of aliens, and a guy from Pulp Fiction can all come together to form one big happy family.

My Brief Trip to Disney World

We're back! The convention was amazing, and the quick trip I took to Disney World was awesome. Joel opted out, preferring to enjoy the remains of the con and get some down time (totally understandable, my feet just about fell off after Disney World)  but I thought I'd post a bit about the half-day of park fun and a little Downtown Disney shopping.

So we (being myself, my boyfriend Sam, and our friends Claire and Jason) bought half-day tickets to Magic Kingdom. It was a deal they had going specifically through the convention, and I have no idea if this is something they do with cons often or what. It worked out well for us because it meant that we didn't miss much of the con (like an hour and a half maybe) and we had enough time (4-10 pm) to get through a lot of the stuff we wanted to do!

We parked, hopped on a monorail, and were swept off to MK. Seeing the castle from the monorail is like my favorite thing ever. Seeing the castle from anywhere is like my favorite thing ever, actually, I took like 20 pictures of it without even noticing.  After ogling Main Street and the castle and the sheer joy of it all we took some quick pictures and headed off to Adventureland. Mainly, I really wanted a Dole Whip and to see The Tiki Room properly restored to it's former enjoyable state. The combo of those two was awesome. We also did Pirates of the Caribbean, the wait time was probably the shortest I'd ever seen it. I should mention though that it was a Sunday and it was raining on and off, so pretty much everything had short wait times.

We were getting hungry and Claire and I were craving corn dogs so we headed over to Casey's. I had actually never eaten there for whatever reason, which is strange, but the corn dog nuggets are awesome. Since it was conveniently connected we took a stroll through the Emporium.

After that we went on Space Mountain. For whatever reason I've always had terrible luck with this ride. The first two Disney trips I've been on I was too little to ride it, then the next time I got in line only to feel pretty sick about halfway through the queue, and then the most recent MK trip I took it was closed for repairs. So I was super excited to ride it, and it proved itself to be worth the wait.

From there we went on the tea cups which I have ridden in ages and I wish I'd gotten pictures of. Then we went to watch Magic, the Memories, and You which I did get a couple of pictures of.

It's really amazing to watch in person but pretty hard to take pictures of because everything moves quite a lot.  We skipped the fireworks because Claire and I aren't big on loud noises. So we rode Small World instead. It's not a popular ride, I know, but I really love Mary Blair's backdrops, and a trip to the parks seems incomplete to me without riding it. After that was our last ride of the night, The Haunted Mansion, which had a really short line as well. We went through the interactive queue despite the rain because I hadn't seen it yet and was interested. I'd love to check it out more thoroughly sometime!

After that we had just enough time to get a Mickey ice cream bar and enjoy the lights of Main Street at night.  It's always really bittersweet to leave the parks. I'm crossing my fingers for a full trip sometime in the next couple of years. I miss it already!

Enough melancholy, time for swag! I got two t-shirts, the Aurora one is a girl's XL which is about the same size as the Space Mountain one (I finally rode it, I deserved a t-shirt) which is a women's medium, for fellow princess enthusiasts frustrated over the lack of stuff in women's sizes. I also got a princess themed mouse head antenna topper with a little crown, a beautiful Alice in Wonderland mug that I should probably take a better picture of at some point, and a really gorgeous print of Cinderella's castle. A nice little haul I think!

Weekly Disney Roundup: August 19, 2012

A cool preview of the Fantasyland expansion! I'm so excited, you guys.

Speaking of new Fantasyland, there's new concept art and posters out of Pete's Silly Sideshow! It's a classic character meet and greet area with a circus theme, and it looks pretty awesome. More pictures here!

This article about songs cut from Disney movies is really cool! It's sad to hear such lovely songs cut though.

Also, I thought I should let you guys know that there won't be a roundup next week! Joel and I (and many of our friends) are road tripping to Florida for Star Wars Celebration VI! With a short side trip to Disney World as well, of course. I'll have an extra awesome post full of Disney pictures when we get back though :D

Weekly Disney Roundup: August 5, 2012

This has been another edition of "Megan Can't Resist Posting Videos of Disney Proposals."

They're going to be remodeling Disneyland's Fantasy Faire soon! I love the little version of Rapunzel's tower, too cute! More pictures here.
Speaking of Fantasyland, this awesome Gaston statue moved in at Disney World's fantasyland this week! I can't wait to take swoony pictures with it. Source.

New Anne Leibovitz photos for the Disney Dream Portraits project came out this week! That would be Jack Black, Will Ferrell, and Jason Segel as The Haunted Mansion's hitchhiking ghosts! There's also Russell Brand as Captain Hook if you're interested, over here!

Disney Magic #43: No Singing on the Way to Atlantis

For this podcast, Disney gets rid of the musical element that was so big in the Renaissance films and instead ramps up the adventure and explosions elements. Despite some serious (VERY SERIOUS) problems with the plot, Atlantis still has fantastic visuals and creates a really interesting world making it well worth watching. If nothing else, watch it for that final shot. Oh man, that shot. Direct Download Link Here

Weekly Disney Roundup: July 22, 2012

“This would be a man that loves going to work and does not dread it the night before. Upon entering the Magic Kingdom, one of the security guards said to the girl “Excuse me Princess, can I have your autograph.” I could see that the book was filled with children’s scribbles as the guard asked the same question of many little Princesses. The little girl could not get over the fact that the guard thought she was a real princess.”
I couldn't find an original source for this, but it's pretty much the cutest thing ever so I had to share! If anyone knows where it originally came from, do let me know.

This song is super cool! And you can find a free download of this over here.

There's a new trailer for the 3DS Kingdom Hearts Game, Dream Drop Distance. Always happy to see Disney making use of The Hunchback of Notre Dame!

I've already posted about this on the Tumblr, but in case you don't follow that, I recently posted this decorative Minnie & Mickey embroidery hoop on my etsy
