Disney Magic #7: The Bambi Episode (Now with 50% more traumatizing moments)

We take a look at Disney's Bambi, which yes, does contain one of the most traumatic and upsetting moments in any Disney movie, and probably in most people's childhood. but much to our surprise, it also contained quite a few wonderful, magical moments, the kind that you would expect from a Disney film. They were just hard to remember when compared to this one specific scene. Check it out for yourself.

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 16, 2011

Weekly Roundup time again!

I've seen this awesome cosplay group of Ariel and her sisters (Arista, Attina, Adella, Aquata, Alana, and Andrina, from left-to-right in case you wondered) around Tumblr lately and I had to share. It's from ~Usagi~Tsukino-krv on Deviantart I love obscure Disney cosplay, and these are just lovely. Plus, they make a nice rainbow!

I think it's pretty safe to say that Disney Face Swap is my new favorite place on the internet.

JennaMarbles shares some hilarious opinions about Disney. *Warning-Very Strong Language!*

Full-grown lady Disney fans rejoice, Forever 21 just got in some sweatshirts with classic Disney films on them. Go to this page and scroll down to get to them, they won't come up if you search for anything on their website. They've also got some cute Minnie, Mickey, and Goofy stuff right now.

A new trailer for The Muppets! I am so excited about this.

Do you guys remember when rooms at the Disneyland Hotel were as low as $15 a night? CAUSE I SURE DON'T. This is a page with room rates on it from 1969, click for bigger!

It's close enough to Halloween to watch Hocus Pocus 800 times a day, right? Next week will be a collection of all things Disney Halloween!

Disney Magic #5: Fantasia, Not Just a Podcast, an Experience

In our biggest Podcast yet, we take a look at one of Walt Disney's most ambitious projects, Fantasia. One of Disney's most unique features, Fantasia was not the instant success of some of the earlier Walt Disney movies, but it has since become an endearing classic and considered a masterpiece of animation.

Note: In the podcast, we discuss a comment in the film about how the ballet "The Nutcracker" is never performed any more. A bit of research on the situation revealed this: The United States did not see a complete staging of the Nutcracker until 1944, four years after Fantasia, and George Balanchine's 1954 staging with the New York City Ballet established the modern tradition of performing the ballet at Christmas time.

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 9, 2011

So I thought I'd start doing these weekly roundup posts of just cool stuff I find that's Disney-related on the internet and general news. Because we've chosen to go through movies one-by-one, we don't really have a chance to talk about what all is happening in the Disney fandom, and I thought this would be a cool way to share!

This is an incredibly cool video showing how they used the audio from this test footage for the actual Mad Hatter Tea Party scene in Alice in Wonderland.

This shot was taken by Courtarro at this year's Dragon Con and pretty much wins for best cosplay group ever.

Rapunzel is an actual princess now? Disney held a big celebration at Kensington Palace in London earlier this week to officially add Rapunzel to the Princess lineup. Frankly I think this was just kind of silly. I thought she was already part of the line up when the movie came out, and it seemed a little ridiculous to have this big hullabaloo in England at a palace. Hopefully this will mean more merchandise with all 10 of them on it though. I was pleased to see Mulan and Pocahontas out and about with the other ladies.

Four movies are being given the 3D treatment and being re-released in theaters! Beauty and the Beast in January 2012, Finding Nemo in September 2012, Monsters Inc in January 2013, and The Little Mermaid in September 2013. This is really great news! I'd love to see these in theaters again, and Lion King's 3D was very tastefully done I thought. I'm also hoping this will mean more re-releases in the future. I've seen most of these in theaters (albeit a while ago, obviously) but I'd love to see some of the much older Disney films on the big screen. Also, note that Monsters University, the Monsters Inc prequel is currently supposed to be released in 2013, so very smart timing.

Kristin Chenoweth performs "Spoonful of Sugar," when the Kennedy Center honored Julie Andrews. This video is about the cutest thing I've seen all week.

As most of you know, Steve Jobs passed away earlier this week. Not only was he a genius at Apple, he was also a driving force behind Pixar. The world has truly lost a visionary. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.

I hope this post was interesting! There's always a lot going on with the Disney fandom, so I'm sure we'll have plenty to share in the future.

Disney Magic #4: Giant Whales and Pleasure Island

For the first time in several years, Megan and Joel both watch Pinocchio, a movie that they have not seen in several years. They discover many things in the movie that they had forgotten over the years...and Pleasure Island...oh man...Pleasure Island

Correction: T. Hee, mentioned in the podcast, was actually credited as one of the Sequence Directors

Disney Magic #3: Podcasting and the Seven Dwarfs

In the first part of the intended fifty part series, Megan and Joel take a look at who is possibly Disney's most iconic feature film: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
