Disney Magic #15: Our Trip to Wonderland

This week our journey through the Disney Films takes us to wonderland where we meet the craziest cast of characters we've seen so far. A dodo, a rabbit, a mad hatter, and of course a disappearing cat all make life very difficult for a poor innocent little girl.

Weekly Disney Roundup: December 11, 2011

That time of the week again! Here's all the cool Disney stuff from this week:

I'm pretty sure this is the cutest Disney park proposal I've ever seen and it involved a talking trashcan.

Walt's 110 birthday was this week! I really like this contemplative picture of him at Disneyland.

You have got to go look at these crazy Disney ice sculptures. These are from the 10th International Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival in Bruges, Belgium. There are more pictures here and a 360 virtual tour here!

Christmas time means Muppet Christmas Carol time. Enjoy some "It Feels Like Christmas," and Micheal Caine's awesome dancing skills.

Weekly Disney Roundup: December 4, 2011

Starting things off this week with a picture of Wayne Brady and his daughter hanging out with Phineas and Ferb. Because Wayne Brady and Phineas and Ferb, obviously.

This post from Kevin Kidney about a particular mural at Disneyland in California that's been destroyed is really saddening. It's also very interesting though, a lot of the original Disneyland has been removed or redone or the sources forever lost to history. Also, if you don't read his blog already, you totally should. It's excellent!

Disney's finally making a Starspeeder 1000 toy! It's super cool looking. You can read more about it here.

This post about abandonded ideas for additions to Disney World is really neat. Most depressing: there were supposed to be dragon and unicorn themed attractions at Animal Kingdom and there were plans for a ride based on The Muppet Movie.

I finally managed to find an adult-sized shirt with Aurora on it. Forever 21 has them for about 20 bucks :D

Weekly Disney Roundup: November 27, 2011

Fun stuff that happened this week:

I'm a big fan of neat Disney medleys in general, but this is simply amazing. Not only is her voice beautiful but the makeup and costuming she did is awesome!

Gingerbread Mickey hat! Super cute for the holiday season.

The Disney Parks blog did a neat little roundup about Disney's balloons in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This is a picture from 1934, his parade debut!

I cannot for the life of me find a source for this picture, but I love the saucy, slightly scandalous princesses!

Also, I'm running a giveaway over at fyeahprincessaurora! Click for details on how to win :D

Disney Magic #11: All of the Fun and Fancy Free.

The best way to describe Fun and Fancy Free, is through saying the words Fun and Fancy Free over and over and over again. Because Fun and Fancy Free. Made up of two shorts we first get the story of Bongo the Circus Bear which features copious amounts of unicycling. Then we have Mickey and the Beanstalk which features a difficult to deal with bit of jello and Donald going CRAZY!

Weekly Disney Roundup: November 20, 2011

More delightful Disney things for you this week!

Brave trailer OMG. Joel and I are super excited.

D23 just released their list of events for this year, and they include things across the country! It's nice to see them branching out from just California and sometimes a bit in Florida. Sadly still nothing anywhere near us, but a nice selection anyway!

We were pretty taken by Johnny Fedora and Alice Bluebonnet from Make Mine Music this week, so here's that short. It's been stuck in my head all week!

November 18th was Mickey's 83rd birthday! That is, 83 years since he debuted in Steamboat Willie. Happy Birthday Mickey!

Hong Kong Disneyland just opened it's Toy Story section this week. It looks awesome. More pictures and info here!

Disney Magic #10: Make Mine Music, or Basically Fantasia 2

This week's package film is made up of nine or ten musical segments depending on where you get a copy of the movie, and we talk our way through the whole thing, one segment at a time.

Weekly Disney Roundup: November 14, 2011

Another week, another roundup! Sorry it's a bit late.

Align Center
A new still has been released from Brave! It's Merida and her family, that would be Merida in the cowl I believe. It's hard to believe she can fit all that fabulous hair under there haha. There's also going to be a new trailer tomorrow, so that'll be in next week's roundup. So excited!

Here's a short clip from the Toy Story short "Small Fry" that will be shown before The Muppets in theaters!

Speaking of Toy Story, Hong Kong based clothing design company bossini has just released pictures of their upcoming Toy Story lines, which you can see on their facebook. It's a little silly, but very cute, and pretty pricey!

Be prepared for all Holidays all the time around here for the next two months. This is what Disney Imagineers have in planning for Cinderella's castle during Magic, the Memories, and You during this festive season. It looks amazing. They're also doing something similar to Small World in California, for more click here.

And last, but certainly not least, Glen Keane the blonde wigged motion capture mermaid. Beautiful. See you next week!

Weekly Disney Roundup: November 6, 2011

Back to our normal roundup schedule!

HOLY. CRAP. YOU GUYS. Disney's been testing new technology for park characters at the Magic Kingdom and it is amazing. It's still in testing, so you won't see this around the parks, but it's so cool! Hopefully they'll get to a point where this is the norm, because that would be awesome.

Beautiful Snow White cosplay from Chibirinoa on Flickr! It's based on Shoomlah's Historical Disney Princess fanart. If you haven't seen it yet, go click that link right now. It's seriously awesome.

Merry Christmas everybody! seriously. Disney parks have already started with their holiday preperation, including filming the Christmas Day parade at Disneyland. That's a behind the scenes shot from Loren Javier on Flickr.

Jack and Sally at Hong Kong Disneyland! They totally kiss a couple of times in this video. It's freaking adorable.

Apparently Michael Ardnt, who wrote Toy Story 3, is going to be writing a Phineas and Ferb film for theatrical release! So cool. Read more about it here.

Disney Magic #8: A Trip Down South, With the First of the Package Films

In a podcast thats almost as long as the movie it's about (because Saludos Amigos is quite short) we look at the first of six "Package Films" that Disney put out. Made up of four shorts, this movie also features Donald Duck and Goofy.

Disney Magic #7: The Bambi Episode (Now with 50% more traumatizing moments)

We take a look at Disney's Bambi, which yes, does contain one of the most traumatic and upsetting moments in any Disney movie, and probably in most people's childhood. but much to our surprise, it also contained quite a few wonderful, magical moments, the kind that you would expect from a Disney film. They were just hard to remember when compared to this one specific scene. Check it out for yourself.

Disney Magic #6: We See Everything (Cause we've Seen an Elephant Fly)

In this episode Megan and Joel off set last episodes two hour movie by watching one that is only 64 minutes. Disney's next movie, Dumbo is about a young elephant who's unusually large ears give him a new name, cause difficulties in his childhood, but also take him to a "new hight." If you've seen the movie, you totally get that.

Weekly Disney Roundup: Halloween Edition!

The Dapper Dans sing "Grim Grinning Ghosts!"

One of my favorite things about this season is seeing Jack and Sally out at the park! This lovely photo is from Lauren Javier on Flickr.

Best Halloween costume ever? Best Halloween costume ever.

Halloween decorations at the parks are so cute, I just love the Mickey pumpkins! This photo is from andy castro on Flickr.

The Disney Parks Blog shared this super cute Haunted Mansion wallpaper a while ago, you can find a bunch of sizes here.

That's our little bits and pieces of Disney Halloween this year! Are you guys being anything Disney-related this year?

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 16, 2011

Weekly Roundup time again!

I've seen this awesome cosplay group of Ariel and her sisters (Arista, Attina, Adella, Aquata, Alana, and Andrina, from left-to-right in case you wondered) around Tumblr lately and I had to share. It's from ~Usagi~Tsukino-krv on Deviantart I love obscure Disney cosplay, and these are just lovely. Plus, they make a nice rainbow!

I think it's pretty safe to say that Disney Face Swap is my new favorite place on the internet.

JennaMarbles shares some hilarious opinions about Disney. *Warning-Very Strong Language!*

Full-grown lady Disney fans rejoice, Forever 21 just got in some sweatshirts with classic Disney films on them. Go to this page and scroll down to get to them, they won't come up if you search for anything on their website. They've also got some cute Minnie, Mickey, and Goofy stuff right now.

A new trailer for The Muppets! I am so excited about this.

Do you guys remember when rooms at the Disneyland Hotel were as low as $15 a night? CAUSE I SURE DON'T. This is a page with room rates on it from 1969, click for bigger!

It's close enough to Halloween to watch Hocus Pocus 800 times a day, right? Next week will be a collection of all things Disney Halloween!

Disney Magic #5: Fantasia, Not Just a Podcast, an Experience

In our biggest Podcast yet, we take a look at one of Walt Disney's most ambitious projects, Fantasia. One of Disney's most unique features, Fantasia was not the instant success of some of the earlier Walt Disney movies, but it has since become an endearing classic and considered a masterpiece of animation.

Note: In the podcast, we discuss a comment in the film about how the ballet "The Nutcracker" is never performed any more. A bit of research on the situation revealed this: The United States did not see a complete staging of the Nutcracker until 1944, four years after Fantasia, and George Balanchine's 1954 staging with the New York City Ballet established the modern tradition of performing the ballet at Christmas time.

Weekly Disney Roundup: October 9, 2011

So I thought I'd start doing these weekly roundup posts of just cool stuff I find that's Disney-related on the internet and general news. Because we've chosen to go through movies one-by-one, we don't really have a chance to talk about what all is happening in the Disney fandom, and I thought this would be a cool way to share!

This is an incredibly cool video showing how they used the audio from this test footage for the actual Mad Hatter Tea Party scene in Alice in Wonderland.

This shot was taken by Courtarro at this year's Dragon Con and pretty much wins for best cosplay group ever.

Rapunzel is an actual princess now? Disney held a big celebration at Kensington Palace in London earlier this week to officially add Rapunzel to the Princess lineup. Frankly I think this was just kind of silly. I thought she was already part of the line up when the movie came out, and it seemed a little ridiculous to have this big hullabaloo in England at a palace. Hopefully this will mean more merchandise with all 10 of them on it though. I was pleased to see Mulan and Pocahontas out and about with the other ladies.

Four movies are being given the 3D treatment and being re-released in theaters! Beauty and the Beast in January 2012, Finding Nemo in September 2012, Monsters Inc in January 2013, and The Little Mermaid in September 2013. This is really great news! I'd love to see these in theaters again, and Lion King's 3D was very tastefully done I thought. I'm also hoping this will mean more re-releases in the future. I've seen most of these in theaters (albeit a while ago, obviously) but I'd love to see some of the much older Disney films on the big screen. Also, note that Monsters University, the Monsters Inc prequel is currently supposed to be released in 2013, so very smart timing.

Kristin Chenoweth performs "Spoonful of Sugar," when the Kennedy Center honored Julie Andrews. This video is about the cutest thing I've seen all week.

As most of you know, Steve Jobs passed away earlier this week. Not only was he a genius at Apple, he was also a driving force behind Pixar. The world has truly lost a visionary. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.

I hope this post was interesting! There's always a lot going on with the Disney fandom, so I'm sure we'll have plenty to share in the future.
